contunuous tone - the CPU is not running, or the OS cannot initialise
the hardware.  Pretty much any hardware failure can cause this.

as another poster suggested, try reseating chips.  If that is
unsuccessful, rather than attempt repair, it might be easier to look for
another BBC as they're so cheap secondhand now.
