What a wacko (but brilliant) idea! :)  

I think other MP3 compressors allow lower bit rates than 64 kbps, but
that amount would correspond to a ratio of roughly 24:1.  On a CD of 74
minutes, you'd get almost 30 hours of pure Beeb bliss... :-)

It's a wonderful way of accurately preserving one's collection of tapes,
which surely are deteriorating as we type.

Maybe TBL! should open up a new MP3 section of sampled original
tapes...?  (Just kidding... :)
