The socket covered by the plastic is for a 'serial rom', which
according to the Advanced User Guide can contain games. The actual
speech hardware is internal and IIRC on the left, near the PSU. The
ICs are a 5220 'Speech Processor Controller' and a 6100 'Speech ROM'.
