A couple of things about this message from Stuart.
First of all Stuart, many thanks for your wonderful BBC emulator PCBBC
and thanks for the way you accommodated me with the format that I know
you dislike.
I use the ADL format as FDC (my favourite disc imaging program)
reads/writes in one pass. Over one disc this may not matter, but over
hundreds it represents a great deal of saved time. I originally started
copying the BBC discs I had on to my PC as a backup. I then realised
that there were many people out there that would like a share of what I
had. Now, most of it is available on the 8BS website.
When deciding on a name for the format (I don't think it existed until
this point), I chose the file extension .a, this was for speed of typing
more than anything else. Stuart allowed for this format in his emulator
and called it ADL. I forgot about this!
So... I merrily bunged all of my .a format discs onto CDs and the 8BS
website. Until this morning, when I read Stuart's email to the list and
suddenly remembered it all.
I have just spent the best part of my day updating everything. Makes a
change from playing Citadel I suppose.
Basically, all ADFS disc images on the 8BS website and the 8BS CDs that
had the file extension .a, have now been renamed to the file extension
adl. The files themselves are not altered in any way (I hope!), so if
you took a copy of the 8BS website, you don't need to download them all
again, just rename them yourselves.
As I write this, I am uploading. Everything should be there in a couple
of hours, Karoo and Keele willing.
Chris
