Sounds to me like a physical problem in getting the drive to step out 
from track 0. I'd be first inclined to attribute that to the drive, but 
we know that works okay. Is it the same cable as used on the Master, or 
might that have a dead line in it? From what I remember of the 
connection, it's quite low level and ISTR a 'step head' line or something 
similar. If the drive and the cable are both good, it points to something 
like a duff connection in the Beeb. Any chance of trying another drive on 
the Beeb to narrow it down? Failing that, examine the PCB connections for 
the IDC header for the drive, maybe a joint has failed there.
