Sounds like a useful clue.

At least there aren't too many tracks to trace if I want to be methodical
about it. I know the interface basically works, so it must be in the head
control signals. And thanks to Chris Richardson, who has furnished me with
an Advanced User Guide, I now have a nice circuit diagram to refer to.
