I remember playing with this a while ago.
ISTR that I found that only a PC BUS mouse was compatible. This is a not
very common type of mouse that was on early PC's. It also had a round
connector like the PS/2 mice. Anyway it took me ages to find out the pin
connections for it, but here they are in case they are of use to anyone.

PC BUS Mouse

1 – 5v
2 – XA
3 – XB
4 – YA
5 – YB
6 – LB
7 – MB
8 –RB
9 – GND

A PS/2 mouse connectors are a follows just in case anyone wants to try.

4 + 5Vdc
5 Clock
6 reserved / NC
