OK - so now I have I third option! (or fourth, if you count the RF
connection).

What you're saying is that the colour-burst information is carried on a
separate pin to the luminance signal therefore avoiding interference between
the two, if I understand correctly. This makes sense, even to a mechanical
engineer :-).

It sounds like a very good idea, as my TV has an S-video port as well.
