I would like to defend my choice of DOS as a development environment for
the following reasons:
1) A single executable will run under DOS, Win 9x, NT and Win2000.
2) You have direct access to the PC hardware (okay you could use
DirectX)

The problem you are experiencing here is a lack of memory below 640K.  A
common problem for DOS programs.  I will be making improvements here for
the next release.  However this should NOT stop you running pcBBC
perfectly successfully from Windows.  You just won't have all 16 banks
of ROMs available.  You're not using them all are you?
