ISTR that &400 marks the start of the language workspace, so editing the
contents might be a little self-defeating, if EXMON is a language ROM,
that is.

Part of that space could be manipulated by using the BASIC variables @%
through to Z%. If you were very cunning (and careful), it was possible
to execute machine code in there.
