I'm probably being pratronising here, but you are emulating the "Electron"
1770 and not the "BBC" 1770 aren't you ?

The Electron Acorn (I presume you're using Acorn and not something like the
PRES/ACP one) ADFS did not use NMIs and the control reg layout is different.
Think it's even at a slightly different offset as well.
