You should take a look at what John Kortink has done with his 65Link program.
This allows a RISC PC to act as a server (hard disc) for any 6502 machine,
which are linked by a parallel to user port cable. It works really well and
is very fast.
If you were able to use his model, all you would have to do is write a new
front end for Windows/Linux and maybe tweak his BBC ROM code a little.
