Subject: Re: Getting the Acornsoft Adventures to run

Robert,

Thanks for this advice,

>>Castle of Riddles is a tape game. It can be hard to get the downloading
right, so my second attempt at loading a game, after trying, say, Acorn
DFS in BeebEm, is to try an "E00" DFS, i.e. a DFS residing in sideways
ROM which leaves PAGE = &E00. (See:<<<<

Thanks - I have now succesfully run the game using this technique - I had
missed this part of the FAQ and gone on to the part about manually "Downloading"
the memory.

>>Are you referring to LordOfTheRings-TD.zip? Check the README file.<<

I did read the readme file but i didn't really understand from it that I
actually had to install the rom to get the game to run - I thought that was
just information about what had been used to transfer the game to disk!!!
I will try this out. Thanks.

>>>>With LordOfTheRingsGame1.zip, I had no problems getting at least
"Part1A" to run. I seem to recall running each of the other parts
earlier.<<<<

Interesting - I tried transferring LordOfTheRingsGame1.zip using the DiskMgr
software with PCBBC and there are files called things like file.1, file.2
and so on. These are not legal file names on BBC Disk so it asked me to
rename the files. I couldn't imagine that the game would run (maybe I'm
wrong) with the files renamed, so I gave up at this point. (not very persistant
am I ;-) )

Cheers
Patrick.
