I think what is being said is that the VXDs Microsoft provides for emulating
true-DOS in a box aren't good enough (which is strange because PcBBC runs in
a DOS box on my Windows 95 machine), and that Microsoft has removed the menu
option for booting to DOS. However, ME is still DOS based, and when you
create a recovery boot disk you basically get a DOS boot disk, from which
you can copy the relevant system files back to your hard drive in order to
recreate a 'boot to regular DOS' option permanently. And some people have
made some programs that do that bit automatically.

But according to the Independant yesterday, Microsoft have just released the
first beta of whatever the first consumer version of Windows not to be based
on DOS will be, so this isn't really a long term solution. And doesn't the
option to emulate all instructions at two cycles in length tell volumes
about just how accurate PcBBC can be anyway?
