Subject: Re: Dare Devil Denis is back!
Firstly, I want to say a big thank you to all the positive email I've received
about the Dare Devil Denis conversion and also to the replys I got answering
my requests.
I've had a number of enquiries also about releasing the source code. I will
plan to do this soon after I have done a little more work to the RISC OS
library code. Most of this library code came straight from my emulator code
and the rest was quite easy to do too. RISC OS has kept a lot of compatibility
with the old BBC OS, especially in the case of the OSBYTE, OSWORD, OSWRCH
etc. calls. In fact all I had to do with these calls was to pass them straight
to RISC OS and let it deal with them.
Porting to other systems would be more difficult, but not exceedingly so.
In the case of the BBC OS calls, it would be a case of intercepting them
and writing the relevant code to do each one. DDD does not use many of these
anyway, so you would only need to implement a few keyboard reading calls,
screen writing calls and sound producing calls.
The hardest part would be the sound reproduction and the screen reading/writing
routines I would imagine.
As for other conversions, Monsters, Snapper and Elite are not possible as
these games are still under copyright. Castle Quest is a possibility, but
I don't know the status of Micro Power games at this time.
Mike.
