Subject: Wouter's vital doc scans 'n stuff

L.S.

(Yes, I like mwc a lot)

I've done some scanning and the following is ready for transport (on a
CD to Chris):
       Basicode 2 cassette inlay
+manuals:
       PCB
       Printbas
       The artist (peartree)
       A.D.I.
       A.D.T.
       Superior speech!
       (Watford) Diagnostics disc
       (Watford) Beebmon
       (Beebugsoft) Icon master
       (Beebugsoft) Disc master
       (Beebugsoft) Masterfile II
       (Beebugsoft) Exmon II
       (Acornsoft) Word hunt
       (Acornsoft) View spell
       (Acornsoft) View printer driver generator
       (CC) Printmaster (for star printers)
(CC) Printmaster (for epson printers, from a not so good
photocopy)
       (CC) Basic accelerator
       (CC) Disc doctor
(CC) graphics rom (with high res colour scan of cover)
       (CC) Wordwise
       (amx) super art
       (amx) pagemaker
(BBC soft) Drawing (with high res colour scans of cover & box)
(BBC soft) White knight Mk11 (with high res colour scans of cover
& box)
(technomatic) timewarp real time clock: preliminary manual
       Acorn Atom: Josbox
       Acorn Atom: Database
Acorn Atom: Various documents + book cover scans
Mostly 300dpi scans (nearly 600 in total).

Also, I've made 2 mp3's from a basicode 2 tape. I tried the load
routines and failed to read the bc2 programs, tape seems ok. I'm not
really interested in this bc stuff (I alwas thought it was a bad idea,
not the portability but the way it is implemented). Perhaps someone can
load them in and then save the programs as standard basic programs? This
also includes all the routines for machines like TRS 80, exidy sorcerer
etc. Also, there's dutch and english introductions for bc and for each
program so you can listen to the mp3's too.

All in all it just about fills an entire CD, so downloading this stuff
is only suitable if you have a high speed connection like ADSL. If
there's enough interest from modem/ISDN users I could make a batch of
CD's; mail me if you're interested.

Regarding magazine scans: doc is certainly not acceptable (bad bad
Robert, for suggesting this!), rtf is also a monstrosity that should be
nuked (html conversions of the rtf stuff in the bbc doc project
please!). I can't read rtf on unix, haven't seen any decent conversion
programs and I'm not going to start windoze to read rtf!

PDF also seems pretty much useless (separating out the text and putting
back in the graphics is going to be a hell of a job). Just use the
filing system and use small jpg's for navigating, big ones for detail,
and make text files of all articles/listings etc.

And JPEG 2000 is not yet a standard, so not an option either. I'm
probably just going to use JPEG. Still doing some testing on what's best
and the format etc.

Wouter
