Oh, it always was, but previously not in a way that is any more useful than
SSD/DSD/ADF/ADL/ADM/etc give or take a bit more information on the image
being present, file compression and the fact that a single file could be
used to contain both disc and tape information. But now the situation is
different of course because UEF can do quite a bit those formats cannot.
It also does state snapshots - for which there is no standard, so is
justified and ROM images but not with a very large amount of information
above what you'd see in a plain ROM dump.
Also, the bit most people who think is a bad idea - it can store an array of
'content information' including inlay scans, textual game descriptions,
author credits, etc.
But I hasten to add, the format is chunks based so ignoring any information
your program doesn't support is trivial. There is also a defined subset
UEF-Tape intended to make everything look nicer to and provide a badge with
which to label authors/software which only want to support that part of the
file format.
