Also you might well save your game to the media and affect its CRC. Of
course, an idea would be to encode the reference number intended for the
database into the files. This could be done explicitly with a specific chunk
in UEF, and for sector dump images could just be appended onto the end,
provided the emulator is mildly altered to preserve the last few bytes even
when growing the image to encompass more sectors.

When presented with a file that is unknown, I feel the best idea would be to
perform a fuzzy query based on the catalogue contents and allow the user to
nominate which program an image is the first time it is used.

Why not just submit XML query forms? The general mood of the thread seems to
be that XML is the best flexible and extensible format right now.
