Either it is very easy,or I've just had 100% blind luck.
Can't remember what drive I used to use with my Master,because I broke the
first one (long story).However,CPC furnished me with £9 worth of Sony drive
(model E/131 date code wk04 1999) - the only change I had to make was slice
a bit of the 34 way connector out so I could fit the polarised ribbon cable
in!

I've also left a trail of 3.5" upgraded Masters behind me at
school/university etc...

As bog standard as mine is (except for a few flying leads from its insides
from interesting IC pins),
