I have a keyboard lead from a mainboard to the keyboard currently at 4
meters (some leftover shielded 21 pole cable). Works like a charm.

A couple of years ago somebody pestered me to make them a 20-foot
extension lead for his BBC keyboard. In utter disbelief I made it for
him totally expecting it not to work over that length. It worked!
I used some 16-way flex from Maplin and a 16-way connector at each end,
and used it in place of the small two-inch keyboard cable. As the
keyboard has 17 lines I ommitted the "cassette LED" signal.
My PC power supply also works wonderfully. Just made some simple
connectors from the PC mainboard connector to the BBC board.
