That was a curly cable though - how long was it stretched out?

I tried a 2 metre disk drive ribbon cable on a Beeb keyboard once.  The
34-way connector simply plugs onto the Molex pins at both ends
(obviously, you're only using half of the 34 ways.)  The Beeb and
keyboard worked fine.
