Well, today I was able to verify that the 6845 in my BBC-B is definitely
faulty. I put it into a home-built computer I had stored away, an Applix
1616, which uses a *standard* 6845 chip.

Now I'm led to believe that the 6845S is backward compatible with the 6845
according to docs I have anyhow.

Well, in the 1616 computer, I got the same (or *very* similar at least)
symptoms anyway. down to the four cursors on the screen.

Now comes the fun part.... Sourcing a replacement 'down under'.
