I've done this myself, and I'm sure that I'm not the only one who has
noticed that copying disks via the serial port is rather slow. However
there is another solution.

You have a BBC and a PC (running Windows?), you have a 5.25" drive and
the correct lead for plugging the drive into the PC (it's the same as
the beeb lead).

Have you considered the possibility of temporarily connecting your 5.25"
drive to your PC and imaging the disks directly using one of the many
available utilities? (more info available if you're interested)
