But the Beeb is perfect without the 8271 and this power supply functions
correctly in the Beeb it was removed from!
Would the 8271 make that much different to a cold power supply?
So is the problem the Beeb with 8271 or power supply?

Check the power supply voltages with a meter. This sounds like the
classic C9 problem in the PSU.
