Subject: Yowsers: This one make of floppy discs getting damaged in drive!

Hi,

The picture shows the end result of trying to read all
this variety of disc in any of my 5 drives:

The disc makes a terrifying high pitch noise when it
spins round.

I was able to get the info of this disc. One track was
originally damaged. The second time I was lucky at
reading the disc and it spun quietly. Then a third
attempt at reading the disc produced the damage you
see.

I can spin the disc by hand in the jacket and it moves
freely and smoothly.

These discs worked fine 3-4 years ago in the same
drives as I am using today! Other varieties of disc
read fine and rotate quietly.

Any ideas what is going wrong to cause this? It could
be the jacket or the hub of the disc. I am thinking of
extracting the disc from its jacket and putting it in
a different jacket but still thinking about it.

Should I let the disc warm up in the drive for a
while?

Thanks,

M
