Subject: Disk drive alignement software?
Hi folks,
One task to keep me entertained over the christmas break is to
repair/realign one of my 80t drives.
I have prepared a disk on a known good drive formatted 80t on both sides
(drive 0 and 2). I then put it into the drive I am attempting to align ,
enter *VERIFY 2 on the beeb and adjust the stepper motor carriage until I
successfully get it to step through and verify the disk. When I achieve
this alignment point I adjust the position of the upper head by trial and
error and attempt to read with *VERIFY 0.
The problem with this method is that If I do not manage to get the
alignment correct the DFS times out and gives me a disk error messsage so
I am continually entering *VERIFY commands., hence it would be nice to
find some software that could automate this process or increase the DFS
time out.
Can anyone recommend any software for repeated track searching or
alignment?
Thanks,
