Yes, I'd just spotted the three socketed terminators, put 2 and 2
together - checked the circuit diagram to make sure my suspicion was
correct and decided to canabalise a couple of floppy cables to make a
new 1 MHZ bus cable for 2 devices (obviously without the floppy cable
twist).

Made the cable, plugged it into the Acorn Host Adapter on its own before
removing any terminators to test the cable, and the host adapter was no
longer detected. Aaarrrrghhhhhhhh. 

Try the original cable again. 
Nope.
Try the other host adapter
OK.
Try the other host adapter with new cable
OK.
Try the Acorn host adapter.
Nope.
<A><BREAK> or <F><BREAK> just sends the floppy spinning.

Time to leave it for tonight I think.....
