Further experimnenting gives me

No-name adapter : connected : ?&FC41=00
Acorn mod adapter : connected : ?&FC45=BC

No-name adapter : not connected : ?&FC41=AC
Acorn mod adapter : connected : ?&FC45=BC

I realised I had the 1MHz bus cable on the wrong way before when I was
getting status 2A - well it was Acorns fault for writing PL1 at the
bottom of the connector and drilling through the "1" at the top end for
a mounting hole. Glad I worked it out though.
