A mouse needs to use CB1 and CB2 as well to generate IRQs, otherwise the
mouse has to be continuously polled. The standard wiring is:

     BBC User Master Compact
    Port Mouse Mouse
D0 Xdir L
D1 M
D2 Ydir R
D3 Xdir
D4 Ydir
D5 L
D6 M
D7 R
CB1 Xref Xref
CB2 Yref Yref

If you want to chop the plug off an Archimedes mouse, the wiring is:

Arch. 9 8 7
Plug: 6 5 4 3
         2 1

       1 Xref
       2 L
       3 M
       4 Ov
       5 +5v
       6 Xdir
       7 Yref
       8 R
       9 Ydir

As a generic mouse driver you could try
