I see your point.
It would be nice to know more about the monitor I found. Perhaps that
allows me to pinpoint the problem; damaged RAM?

Yes I did. And I think the problem is rather serious:
I used all four combinations of using a hard disc and floppy, including
nothing at all. There is no difference in behaviour of the MDFS, which
is odd and a complete mistery to me, as it had worked superbly just some
weeks ago.
Floppy drives and cable are ok, tested on the Master.
Testing the HD is a bit more difficult, so I haven't done that. But
after the initial access to the drives (HD and/or floppy), the MDFS
comes to a full stop. I'm getting to suspect a more serious problem.
What can happen to the hardware after fitting a new battery of nominal
3.6 volts, charged up to 3.9 `a 4.0 volts and MDFS switched off for
about 5 weeks, as the battery is the only change made.
