Subject: Acorn USA BBC ROMs + more web page updates
L.S.
I promised Sprow to make ROM dumps of my USA BBC (sold to me as
defective, but not tested by myself yet) and finally got around to it...
I've placed the following ROMs on my webpages:
- Acorn USA MOS (hexdumping I see "Acorn OS" and "OS A1.0"
- Acorn US BASIC3
See
http://www.astro.livjm.ac.uk/~bbc/bbc/bbc-software.html
US DNFS to follow, but it's hard to extract without more disassembly, so
may take a while until I'm in the mood :)
There's an image of the (EP)ROMs as well.
I've not tried to run the US MOS. Hexdumping the US BASIC ROM shows
COLOR and COLOUR are both in there. I ran US BASIC briefly (on a
standard BBC) and when I type in the following program:
10 COLOR 5
20 COLOUR 6
then LIST, the result is:
10 COLOR 5
20 COLOR 6
So, the spelling is not converted from COLOR to COLOUR, but it's the
reverse (and it really makes sense this way, when you're trying the sell
a machine in the US!).
Other web page updates:
I got a request for the Prophet 3 (= Acorn Atom variant) images, asked
the guy who sent me the images (Steven Fisher, ebay=jayedan), and I
could put them on my webpages. See the pictures section. Direct link to
the page:
http://www.astro.livjm.ac.uk/~bbc/pictures/atom/computer/index.html
Finally, an update on 2nd hand buying & selling, with the ebay page:
http://www.astro.livjm.ac.uk/~bbc/ebay/index.html
And yes, this was and is on topic, as we all here are interested in
getting/seeing/playing with BBC or other Acorn stuff we used to have or
haven't seen before, so a discussion on how to get it, who not to deal
with, recommendations on where to buy etc. are on topic.
Regards,
Wouter
