Subject: Any ideas on how to replicate a BBC project onto a lap top PC?

Hi -

I'm struggling to get the bits I need for a BBC project which has led me to
think maybe there's a better way, which may be a bit off topic...

This project is to enable a disabled person to control the multiple
functions of any games machine using just one or two switches:

a) 2x simple on/off switches (scan and select)

b) Interface to connect these switches to a computer (e.g. BBC Micro via
Analogue socket)

c) On-screen scan and select menu software. This would allow the user to
scan through multiple functions, then select the one they want.

d) Output box with a minimum of 8 lines all ending in 3.5mm mono jack plugs
(e.g. connected to the USER port).

e) Adapted Games machine controller with 3.5mm mono sockets connecting to
the contacts on each button (e.g.
www.oneswitch.org.uk/4/DIY/playstation-pc.htm).

f) Games machine with it's own TV.

I've heard of BASIC stamp, but I really need something with clear on-screen
presentation that can sit next to a games machine set-up. The only language
I know is BBC BASIC, but I'd be willing to learn anything else that is
relatively simple.

Can anyone point me in the right direction, please?

Barrie
