You can tell a SCSI drive to format itself with the "Format Unit"
command.  Prior to doing this, it is possible to set the sector size
using a Mode Page command, so *in theory* it should be possible to get
any  drive to format itself with 256-byte sectors.

Perhaps you could connect the drive to a PC and use Bart's SCSITool
(http://www.nu2.nu/scsitool/) to format it with 256-byte sectors, then
transfer it back to the Master.  I know this utility is used to re-
format 520-byte sector drives (used on IBM RS/6000 systems I think) to
the more conventional 512-byte sector PC format.
