There is no "rigid" rule AFAIK. Most decent email and usenet clients remove
any message content found after the -- that forms the separator between
post and sig. But it is considered to be good netiquette, as are other
things like not top posting to email and usenet messages, quoting the
message you are responding to, not "shouting" by typing everything in caps
