Subject: TEAC diskdrives not working anymore with my BBC?
I have two TEAC 5 1/4" diskdrives (type FD-55FR-511-U) connected to my
Beeb; they
are in one case with their own power-supply.
I haven't been using them for about one year, but yesterday, in a
nostalgic mood, I tried
to load some programs of discs but the only thing I have got from BOTH
drives is
Disc Fault 18 at 00/00. I have checked: it is not the disc (I have tried
several), nor the Beeb, nor the lead
nor the power supply*; apparently both drives developed a (the same!)
fault in the last year!
(And yes, I have cleaned the heads). It looks like the heads don't move
to the track they should read.
Does anybody have a clou what went wrong and how to repair them?
Peter Janssen, Geleen The Netherlands
* I have connected another drive to the Beeb and power supply, another
lead, etc. The two disk also didn't
work when connected to another Beeb.
