You need to carefully select your inkjet, the price will give you a clue.
For example the Epson laser printer I have here (EPL5800) was also available
as EPL5800L which was the Windows 'Lite' version.

So, I can print direct from the beeb to the laser printer in plain text mode
on it as it's not a dumb Windows printer,
