The original disc inside the FileStore E20 is a Rodime R0652. I have been
searching for about 2
years now to find alternatives to use, because the system used in the E20
is the same as the BBC
hard disc system, ie. an Acorn Host Adapter board connected directly to a
SCSI disc drive.

The only way I have ever got this to work is using old ST506 drives (like
the Miniscribe 8425 but
not the 8425S which is SCSI) which also require a disc controller board like
an Adaptec ACB4000 or
ACB4070.

If anybody out there knows what SCSI discs can be connected straight into
the BBC host adapter,
please please please let me know!!

I have tried a Miniscribe 8425S this week and that won't work either. Curiously,
it won't work on
my MDFS either, which will usually format anything, but it gives the 6-times
flashing System Error
light and I don't know why.

I also tried another Seagate 2GB drive (getting a bit optimistic perhaps!!)
with the usual no
response from the Beeb although it formats in the MDFS no problem.

I presume you have got a FileStore E01 to connect to the E20. In theory,
you ought to be able to
connect up any BBC compatible hard disc system to the FileStore Expansion
Bus at the back of the
E01 as an alternative to the E20.

There are some pictures here of my FileStores if you are interested:

By the way, has anybody ever seen (or even owned) a FileStore E40 or E60?

Best wishes,

Ian

Dear BeebMaster,

Would you have a SCSI for a Filestore E20 unit; or even, say, a MiniScribe
8425 for sale?

Best wishes, Raf
