So, in a nutshell, if you're just interested in an ADFS
harddisc system based on modern hardware, and you're
willing to forego extras like easy backup/restore, more
speed (not that that would be an issue in either case)
and silent and wholly internal operation, and don't mind
having to 'place' all the external stuff like interface
PCB, cable and IDE drive, save yourself money and get
the (16-bit I'd say) IDE solution (it's cheaper in terms
of storage per buck as well, and IDE drives are easier
to obtain/thrown in for free due to people abandoning
them because of their small size).

That's probably a reasonably fair assessment.

Or, of course, get yourself a truly retro harddisc system
with matching difficulties like hard to obtain drive and
interface (the longevity of reasonably young drives may
be good enough, for a while).

I think it's fair to say that ADFS compatibility is 100%
in all three cases.
