That's very true. The Master 512 boot disc is a nuisance to copy. I suppose
the BBC B would have
to have the 1770 interface anyway, regardless of the ADFS bit at the beginning,
to be able to read
the DOS discs.
It's another factor mitigating against the existence of an 80186 cheese wedge,
ie. if there had
been one, there would presumably have also been a set of BBC B DOS discs.
What do people with the 80186 in a Watford adapter use?
I remember hearing about a Fast Boot ROM brought out by Essential Software
to use (I think) in
place of the Master boot discs. Does anybody know if it is available anywhere?
Best wishes,
Ian

The BBC B would also need to have ADFS (and 1770 disc controller) to be able
to boot the weird part-ADFS-part-DOS boot disc.
I also wonder whether GEM made use of the improved VDU command set on the
Master IO processor to improve the speed of the GEM apps?
But to answer in a word, no, I've never heard of an 80186 copro being used
with a BBC B,
