Raf,
It just *has*!! You have just replied to Jonathan *twice*, without
mentioning anything of interest to other members of this list!! And this is
*after* you told Mike Tomlinson would not repeat this behaviour!
Over the past two months, I have seen 29 emails from you land in my inbox
and of those only *1* was part of a beeb-related discussion which I consider
to be a topic I expect to find in a mailing list dedicated to BBC micros
(Re: [BBC-Micro] Sprow- 'tricking' the MOS on a Master 128, Sent: Wed
29/06/2005 22:35). From those I bothered to open, the rest appeared to
contain your shopping list discussions to various beeb suppliers,
thinly-veiled rants over dealing with John Kortink, and continual apologies
for all of this behaviour which has further contributed to the increase in
volume of the list.
If I had a virtual clue-stick I would be beating you over the head with it.
Please stop taking out your frustrations on my poor email client, it does
not have the bandwidth to take you on - it's waving a white flag! You win,
leave it in peace!
Please, read this email .. and do *not* respond. Consider it an immature
troll, if you will. A reply to the list continuing this topic, would *not*
be of interest to someone with an interest in beeb matters, only to those
who enjoy Jerry Springer in-fighting. Also, do not reply personally to me -
I think I know more about you now, than most of the people I know in rl. I
do not wish to know any more, thanks.
The ONLY 2 reasons I have sent this topic to the list are:
a) to officialy lend my support to Mike Tomlinson & Jonathan Harston's
requests for you to Just Stop It
and b) to raise the topic of list moderation below
</END OF RANT>
<NEW TOPIC = Mailing list tools required?>
=========================================
Seemingly over the past few months I've seen a number of topics seemingly
get out of hand (not just raf, above - his was just the latest to force me
to put fingers to keyboard). Ever since I joined this mailing list over a
year ago, I've seen nothing close to a list moderator and have also followed
discussions such as those regarding broken list headers which cause problems
when trying to specify rules to sort the list when it arrives in their
inboxes.
Question, then - has anyone suggested moving the mailing list? I've been a
member of a mailing list on yahoo! groups for a while. They have the option
of specifying multiple moderators (who need not necessarily be the owners of
the list), and they also have many extra features for members to use such as
places to upload files, photographs and links. You can also set options
individually so you can choose not to receive emails and, instead, look
through the web interface - or have the emails all grouped together in one
daily digest etc. There is also a chat forum and a page to set up polls, as
well as a complete archive of all messages posted. The latter, of course,
would not need to replace Jon Ripley and Jonathan Harston's excellent
mailing list archive which, of course, contains all the mailing list
archives to date.
I'm not suggesting this list is fundamentally broken but it's reached the
point where I thought I'd ask the question.
Thoughts on this new topic, anyone?
Sam.
