The magnetic coercivity is different though between the two though -
just close enough that you might find you can get away with it on a
particular drive or for a particular length of time.
Personally I wouldn't risk it - just use the right media for the
format...

Same issue though I believe, it's just that the magnetic properties of
5.25" floppies differ greatly between DD and HD, unlike for 3.5" where
they're pretty close.
