Is it possible to implement a 68x54 in a PIC, FPGA or some other more
modern device, rather than building the board to rely on old
hardware? Does anybody even make the 68x54 any more? (Personally, I've
not got any spare master modules, although I've at least a couple of loose
68B54's)
Actually, having thrashed through the Motorola datasheets in order to
emulate the dratted chip in software, it probably wouldn't be an easy task
to do an exact emulation in hardware. It would be easier instead to just
cobble up something that would talk the same protocols on the line, as we
don't have to keep the CPU side the same if new drivers are being written.
