So why bother putting on an ISA slot now, that wouldn't be used as the part
is available. And as you point out, getting hold of ISA cards in ten years
might be quite difficult? 

If you have to make new PCB's up in 10 years time, you might aswell change
the design then for what is available. Simply make the PCBs up now for what
we need. The design is simple enough to be modified in the distant future if
a new batch were needed and original parts were unavailable.
