This is my view of it - in particular, I have a stack of 8-bit beebs, as 
this is my main area of interest, and nothing much later.  Certainly 
nothing with any sort of network interface in it, never mind econet & ethernet!

Plus a dedicated device would undoubtedly draw less power!
