Yes, you can use an A4000 for an Econet fileserver running L4.
I don't like Level 4 personally, it seems to me that there is no security
on it. In other words it stores all the Econet data in ADFS format in
a directory on your hard disc so anybody could go in and have a look.
With L3 you can't really do this, you would have to log onto the server
from another station to view the contents of the Econet partition on
the disc.
If you have a second processor then you could run Level II or III from one
of your Masters and this way you would leave your 32-bit machine free for
doing something more useful than acting as a server. You won't really
gain any speed in Econet data transfer over using an A4000 rather than
a Master as a server.
I've got the L4 discs but only on disc so if nobody comes up with an electronic
copy, let me know and I will get them to you.
Best wishes,
Ian

Can i use my acorn A4000 as a fileserver for econet, ive heard about Lv4
for archimedes
ive got a clock box and socket boxes and have got 2 masters and a compact
and my A4000 all hooked
up and have not got the no clock signal
I can run Lv1 software on one of the masters, but if i can get my A4000 to
be a filestore then i
would have 500Mb of disk space
Does anyone have a copy of Lv4 or the utils disk
Cheers Corey
