Clutching at straws, but is there a physical jumper on the drive to set the
block size? It'd probably need to be 256 bytes for something hooked up to
the beeb, whilst it's likely something different for most other hardware...
If those are the model of drives I'm thinking of, I've had a few problems
with them in the last few years - if possible verify that the drives / media
are known to be good on a modern machine...
