Subject: 101 uses for a speech system (number 47)
Hi,
The original speech system upgrade came supplied, in the UK at least, with a
dictionary of words spoken by newsreader Kenneth Kendall in an english
accent.
Anyone wondering what the US version of the BBC micro sounded like can do so
now, thanks to Chris Johns, who had access to a US accent PHROM at school.
The PHROM contains a dictionary of words more suited to industrial control
applications (fun phrases include "Danger, electrician under pressure") as
well as a Sesame street alphabet as usual.
How to use the alternate PHROM
- users with my speech system

simply reprogram the PHROM emulator using the software supplied and
the image from the same website

um, well, try to find a US BBC Micro?
Interestingly the USA PHROM appears to have a bank id of 0, so you would
need to have used
SOUND -16,wordnumber,0,0
however the reprogrammable speech upgrade as supplied by default has a bank
id of 15 so the familiar
SOUND -1,wordnumber,0,0
can be used as usual.
Enjoy!
Sprow.
