As with so many others, I don't have too much spare time to devote to this.
I do, however, like the idea of spending an hour or two every now and then
tinkering away on the BBC. (Though technically it's more likely to be
tinkering away on an emulator as I don't have enough office space to set up
the old Master Turbo). I'm not too bothered about using third party tools
but have no objection if other people wanted to do so.
I think that Neill's suggestion of a sudoku solver is a good one. It
wouldn't take too much time to put together a basic program and judging
entries on speed and algorithm elegance is a nice idea. After all, that's
what coding was all about in the good old days when we didn't have megabytes
to spare and cpu speed wasn't measured in gigahertz (or even megahertz come
to that).
