presumably there's a telnet client available for the A3000 - can that 
talk to your telnet server OK?

experience with services running on routers is that there's usually 
(naturally) all sorts of security hoops to go through to get things to 
work, not just a case of enabling the service itself... just makes me 
wonder if your telnet server's actually alive and visible to machines 
using the intended IP addresses!
