Subject: PC World 3.5" floppy drives
I think I've found the secret to these beasts with regards the drive
selection thing.
To make sure we're on the same channel, the 3.5" drive I have in front
of me is a SONY drive, with no discernible jumpers.
On the circuit board however are two surface mount resistors, or rather
one is a resistor, the other is a gap for one.
One is marked JC30 to the side, and SEL 0 above.
The other is marked JC31 to the side, and SEL 1 above.
Going by the established rule that all PC floppies are drive "1" because
of the cable twist, then it would appear a deft soldering hand needs to
move the resistor (about 1 mm wide) from the SEL1 position to SEL 0 to
change the drive ID.
There are also two other "options" on this drive, marked JC21 and JC40.
No clue as to what they are for yet.
*begins the grafting process*
